Wheel alignment, often known as automobile tracking alignment, is an essential component of car maintenance. It is the angle and direction at which your tyres are mounted. At Tyre Smart, we have been servicing the vehicles in Brentwood for years. We employ specialised technology to precisely adjust your vehicle's wheels. Your wheels must be aligned to the recommended position as specified by your car's manufacturer. Hitting kerbs or speeding through a pothole can cause wheel misalignment. Poorly aligned tyres can influence road grip and reduce tyre life; therefore, it's critical to check your wheels regularly.

What is the wheel alignment process?
Alignment is adjusting a vehicle's suspension — the system that connects the car to its wheels. It is not an adjustment to the tyres or wheels. Instead, changing the angles of the tyres, which influence how they make contact with the road, is the key to good alignment. When a technician inspects your tyre alignment, they are primarily concerned with three factors.
- Caster - Your caster angle helps to balance steering, stability, and cornering. The angle of your steering axis as seen from the side of your vehicle. A positive caster, for example, leads the steering axis to lean toward the driver. A negative caster, on the other hand, implies that your vehicle's steering axis is inclined toward the front.
- Camber - When viewed from the front of the vehicle, this is the inward or outward angle of the tyre. Incorrect alignment is indicated by excessive inward or outward tilt, also known as negative and positive camber. Worn bearings, ball joints, and other wheel suspension components can cause camber misalignment.
- Toe - Toe alignment, as opposed to camber alignment, is how your tyres spin inside or outward when viewed from above. If that's too complicated, stand up and look down at your feet. Then, angle them inward toward your body's centre. Toe-in alignment occurs when your car's tyres are tilted in the same direction (remember, we're speaking in terms of birds-eye-view). Toe-out alignment is achieved by angling your feet outward. Both require modification.
Causes of poor wheel alignment
Regular wheel alignments will keep your tyres in good condition, saving you money on tyres over time. You'll also benefit from improved fuel efficiency and performance and protection for your vehicle's suspension components against unexpected repairs. Misalignment can be produced by a variety of factors, including the following:
- Bashing into curbs or road debris
- Vehicle modifications such as lifting
- Driving across potholes
- Minor traffic collisions
What happens if I leave it?
For safe car handling, a correct wheel alignment is essential. All of the wheels on your car must be correctly aligned for the tyres to go straight and avoid premature wear. Your tyres wear down rapidly and unevenly when you drive with poor wheel alignment. As a result, you may have difficulty steering or managing your vehicle. Therefore, it would be best to check your wheel alignment as soon as you discover a problem. We encourage you to visit the Tyre Smart centre for a tyre alignment if you notice any of these symptoms. The sooner you have your alignment checked, the less damage you will cause to the rest of your vehicle. So please call us on 01376 511177 or you can email us on
